The TEFL Praxis Journal seeks innovative, theoretically grounded research reports directly related to TEFL practice that are of immediate relevance to teachers working in EFL contexts. We also welcome theoretically driven perspectives about the role of praxis in language teaching research, as well as other scholarly perspectives on current issues related to TEFL. The Editorial Board is particularly interested in publishing qualitative studies dedicated to the following:
Classroom-based TEFL research
Best practice pedagogical approaches/rationales
Researcher-practitioner collaboration in TEFL
Exploratory practice
Action research
Interpretive research
Technology in TEFL classrooms
Submissions guidelines:
All submissions are first vetted by the Editor and two Associate Editors, one of whom is a TEFL practitioner. This initial review process determines whether the submission fits the remit of the TEFL Praxis Journal, whether the submission is of direct relevance to EFL teachers, and whether it meets the future direction of the journal as envisioned by the Editorial Board. This process will also serve to ensure that we are not overrepresented in certain areas, contexts and theoretical positioning. If submissions do not conform to APA referencing guidelines (7th ed.), manuscripts will be immediately returned to authors for corrections. Upon initial vetting of the submission, the author will be notified with a screening decision, usually within two weeks. If the submission passes the initial screening, it will then be sent out for double-blind peer review. Screening rejections will be final, with only a brief explanation about the decision. For those papers that are sent out for review, we aim for a review turnover time of not more than two months from the date of submission.
To ensure that your paper has the best possible chance to be published in the TEFL Praxis Journal, we suggest that your submission:
– is of professional interest to researcher-practitioners and classroom EFL teachers.
– contributes to the concept of ‘praxis’ in an innovative and material way
– employs a qualitative theoretical framework for the exploration of teaching and learning*
– is coherently written and thoroughly proof-read; situated within published work in the field
– adheres to APA referencing style (APA Manual, 7th edition)
We place particular value on pedagogical implications. Praxis is a philosophy used to guide and conduct research, and to make this research applicable in actual practice. In traditional research reports, pedagogical implications are often presented formulaically, usually near the end of a paper and often as an obligatory afterthought. To be accepted for publication, contributing authors must prominently integrate pedagogical implications into their research reporting process. Practical implications for TEFL classroom teachers should be highlighted in any submission to the TEFL Praxis Journal.
*We will also accept quantitative research submissions that are of immediate relevance to classroom practitioners. Theory and data should be presented in a way that is accessible to a general readership. Quantitative research submissions must have clear practical classroom applications.
